My Approach to Mediation

I believe that when approaching mediation the object should be to secure an expeditious, cost efficient, confidential and commercial solution to litigation. It is important to ensure that clients are fully prepared for mediation and equipped with all the appropriate material to give the mediation the best prospect of success and so as to enable the client to make informed decisions during the course of the mediation.

My Mediation Training & Experience

I undertook the Dispute Resolution and Mediation certification provided by the Law Society at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies.

I have been engaging in mediations in my professional capacity for circa 10 years. Mediations are becoming more and more prevalent in practice and I find that I am conducting mediations more frequently. I have engaged in excess of 100 mediations, principally in respect of commercial, construction and chancery litigation. Primarily the mediations I participate in are convened in Belfast or London, but they can of course be convened at a venue determined by the parties.

I have engaged in mediations involving all core areas of commercial and civil litigation, including construction law, contract law, company law and litigation, banking law (including personal guarantees and loan sale, facilities assignment), insolvency (bankruptcy and corporate insolvency), professional negligence, probate, chancery law, privacy law (including social media), landlord and tenant law, land and property law, data protection, licensing and planning law.

My Legal Background

My areas of particular interest in general practice include: general commercial litigation, company law, contract, construction law, professional negligence, privacy law (including social media), data protection, insolvency and bankruptcy, judicial review, land law and property, landlord and tenant law, licensing, mediation and dispute resolution, negligence and general tort, planning, licensing, professional regulatory tribunals and medical negligence.
