My Approach to Mediation

I offer an efficient and common sense approach to mediation. My ability to create a quick rapport sets the parties at ease and allows them to engage in mediation with confidence and a focus on the outcome. I have active listening skills and an ability to communicate and explain the process in terms which are clear and concise. I have a sensitive and empathetic approach towards the emotions which may arise during Family Mediation, whilst at the same time, retaining the focus on the issues which the parties wish to resolve. I act as a catalyst to allow the parties to achieve an effective solution.

My Mediation Training & Experience

I obtained a Certificate of Competence in Mediation Skills with Core Solutions in March 2012. I also completed the Family Mediation Module with QuEST in September 2013 and completed further mediation training with QuEST in May 2016.

In my practice as a Barrister, I use mediation skills on almost a daily basis, to achieve effective outcomes for my clients, particularly in the area of family and matrimonial law.

I also have voluminous experience in Family and Matrimonial cases which have been referred for mediation and have seen the effective outcomes which can be achieved through this process, resulting in a timely and satisfactory outcome for the parties.

My Legal Background

I was called to the Bar of Northern Ireland in 2005 and to the Bar of Ireland in 2012. I have developed a particular interest and expertise in Family, Matrimonial and Children law. I act in both Public and Private Law children applications on behalf of parents and Guardian ad Litems. I represent clients in Divorce and Ancillary Relief applications in the High Court and County Court. In 2013, I undertook Advanced Advocacy Training in Family Law. In March 2016, I was selected to represent the Bar of Northern Ireland at the International Academy of Trial Lawyers Conference, in Washington D.C..

My Other Interests

I am a member of the Society of Teachers of Speech & Drama and an external examiner in Speech & Drama for the London College of Music, University of West London.

I am a graduate of the Washington-Ireland Programme for Service and Leadership.
