Michael McCrea

I undertook mediation training with Core Solutions in 2011 - 2012 and and have been an accredited member of the Barrister Mediation and Arbitration Service since its inception. I am fully compliant with my mediation CPD requirements.

I have acted as a mediator in the following areas:

1. Commercial disputes.
2. Rights of Way/ Proprietary disputes.
3. Debt Resolution.
4. Employment/ Sexual Harassment in the workplace.
5. Building Disputes.

In my practice as a barrister I have advised clients on the use of mediation as a means of dispute resolution, in particular in the areas of clinical negligence and stress at work cases. I was a founding member of the Bar Mediation Service, being a member of the committee that was responsible for setting up the service. I have lectured to solicitor associations and corporations on the role of mediation in dispute resolution.

I have been a barrister in independent private practice at the Northern Ireland Bar since 1983. I am also a member of the Irish Bar.

My practice is mainly civil based where I specialise in personal injury and clinical negligence matters. Lately I have been involved in Public Inquiries and Inquests.

In my role as a barrister I receive instructions for both claimants and insurance clients. This has allowed me to develop a wide range of skill sets in the art of negotiation and the conduct of trials. It is this skill set and experience that makes me such an effective mediator.

I am active within the Bar being a member of the Personal Injury Bar Association since 2005 and I served on the Bar Council from 2012 to 2014.

I have served as a member of the NI Legal Services Commission from 2006 to 2008 and as a governor of Rathmore Grammar School from 2006 to 2013.

Outside of my career I enjoy family time being married with one son and I am passionate in my hobby of fly fishing.
